As I’m cuddled up in a blanket drinking hot tea with three upper layers of clothes on, I’d say fall has made it’s way to Kansas. Although it’s supposed to be 80 tomorrow, so who knows? This week’s outfit is definitely inspired by fall with lots of earth tones that emulate the changing of the leaves. The main piece is a casual, cotton shirt dress purchased on clearance for $7.00. All of the tights were under $10.00. The first scarf was $15.00, but it’s reversible (so two in one!). The second scarf was $7.00, and the jean jacket was given to me by my friend’s mom. Layering is key in the fall, since you never know what temperature it’s going to be from one hour to the next!
Workwear Wednesday – Striped Blazer
A cute blazer is a quick way to dress up any outfit and can be worn so many ways. Another great find at TJ Maxx, this white blazer with navy pin stripes is perfect for the transition from summer to fall or winter to spring. If you want to be a bit more creative and show some personality in any outfit, add some fun shoes like the leopard print heels in shot two!
blazer $20 regular price | white button-up (Christmas gift years ago when I was wearing a lot of suits to work) | navy lace top $15 | maroon lace top $10 | jeans are hand-me-downs from my cousin and happen to be my favorites | maroon pants $10 on clearance | navy skirt $3 on clearance (It’s so comfortable!)
Team Spirit
Whether it’s Red Friday, you are attending a game after work, or you work for a high school or university, sometimes you want to represent your team during the work day. Certain organizations won’t allow t-shirts, but oftentimes there is still a way to show your pride while remaining professional. Look for clothes and accessories that are a little dressier than a t-shirt such as polo shirts, button downs, ties, jewelry, etc. Paired with other work-appropriate items, you will be able to show off your team spirit any day of the week and easily transition to an after hours event. The Jayhawk shirt was on clearance for less than $10, the blue blazer was on clearance for $15, the blue jean jacket was given to me by a friend’s mom, the red skinny jeans were on clearance for $10, the red skirt was $25, and the red shorts were on clearance for $5. Rock Chalk!
Workwear Wednesday – Feelin’ Fall
So it’s not exactly Wednesday anymore, but better late than never! It’s already Thursday, and that means the week is almost over. Time definitely continues to fly. This week’s outfits are based on a simple pearl snap, light (both in color and fabric) shirt. The shirt, alone, is very casual, but there are plenty of ways to dress it up, and make it work for a number of occasions. The denim shirt, burgundy pants and skirt, and black skirt were all either on clearance or regular price for around $10 each. The cheetah print scarf was $5, the knitted scarf was made by a family member, and the skinny jean capris were hand-me-downs from a friend’s mom and happen to be my favorite pants! The tank top in the third photo was $2, and the statement necklace in the last photo is from a family Dirty Santa gift exchange.
Workwear Wednesday – one blouse, 5 dressy options
This week features a modernized leopard-print, sleeveless blouse with 5 dressy options. The blouse and and cute skirt (with POCKETS!!!) were both on clearance for less than $10. The pencil skirt and cardigan were less than $15.00 full price, and the suit was purchased when The Gap had its 30% off Friends & Family sale one November. At the time, I didn’t necessarily need a new suit, but I thought it was a great opportunity to take advantage of the significant percent off, as I knew I’d make good use of the suit on a regular basis.
One for Every Season
With the cooler temperatures and a slight indication that fall is on the way, I decided to show how one dress can work for any season. Unfortunately, it was raining on the day we took the photos, so we had to work with limited indoor space. The dress was on clearance for less than $10.00, the scarves were both $5.00, the black leggings were $10.00, the gray cardigan was $15.00, and the gray blazer was $25.00. FYI–TJ Maxx is a great place to find blazers. They have a wide variety, all for around $20-$30.
Winter, spring, summer, and fall!
Workwear Wednesday – Polka Dots & Pencil Skirts
This week’s outfit features polka dots and pencil skirts (for the most part). First, try playing around with mixing and matching patterns. Polka dots and animal print can work! If there is one thing I learned from years of watching What to Not Wear, it’s that clothes don’t have to match, they just have to go together. Items in the same color scheme often will coordinate, so try something new by putting together items that you normally would never consider. Think about accessories as well. Adding a belt and cardigan, although simple, can really add to an outfit and bring it all together.
Workwear Wednesday – Whales for Work? Why Not?
What you should and shouldn’t wear to work can vary drastically depending on your industry and organization. A lot of organizations (not all) are realizing you don’t have to wear a suit and tie to be productive or professional (what a concept!), so they are loosening up their “dress code.” Especially now when most people are working from home or are just now transitioning back into the office, work attire has become a bit more relaxed. If your job allows some creativity in your attire, have a little fun and represent your personality! Why not wear whales to work? Whales (or any animal!) may be appropriate for work wear when subtle and paired with items that still allow you to look well put together. We are in our work clothes at least eight hours every day. We might as well enjoy them! The three looks below show how a short-sleeved button-up with a whale pattern can go from casual to more professional. Easily switch pants and/or shoes and add a jacket for different options.
Workwear Wednesday – Navy T-shirt – 3 Looks
This week’s feature might be one of my favorites. This navy (with white stripes) t-shirt is very versatile and COMFORTABLE! It provides the perfect foundation for a variety of summer looks! The material is so soft, and it easily goes from super casual to dressy in no time. The t-shirt itself was less than $5.00 on clearance, the eggplant pants, green pants, and jacket were all less than $12.00. The scarf was a gift, and the white jeans are hand-me-downs from my cousin.
Workwear Wednesday – Week 2
It’s week 2 of Workwear Wednesday! This week features a cute dress that strongly resembles a bumble bee; it’s perfect for summer. I love the cut-out details on the neckline. The dress was purchased at full price for $16.00. All other items, except shoes, were $10.00 or less at full price or on clearance. The black scarf was only $5.00! I have really long legs, so as a standalone, this dress is a little short on me for work. By pairing it with black leggings, I’m ready to go.
